PATIENT EDUCATION · THE SIMPLE EXPLANATION
Watchman procedure preparation, made clear.
A few pictures. Short explanations. Start here, then explore the full guide when you’re ready.
01 · WATCHMAN PROCEDURE PREPARATION
What does Watchman do?
In AFib, clots may form in the left atrial appendage, a small pouch on the upper left chamber. Watchman seals this pouch to lower stroke risk in selected patients.
It does not treat AFib or prevent every cause of stroke.
02 · WATCHMAN PROCEDURE PREPARATION
How is it placed?
A catheter enters through a femoral vein in the groin, travels to the heart, and crosses the wall between the upper chambers. It delivers the device into the appendage and is then removed.
Your procedure team gives you a personal fasting and medication plan.
03 · WATCHMAN PROCEDURE PREPARATION
Why is follow-up important?
You still need the prescribed blood thinner or antiplatelet medicines while healing. Follow-up imaging checks the device and seal before your care team changes treatment.
No driving for 48 hours after the procedure. Do not stop prescribed medicines on your own.
