PATIENT EDUCATION · THE SIMPLE EXPLANATION
Implantable loop recorders, made clear.
A few pictures. Short explanations. Start here, then explore the full guide when you’re ready.
01 · IMPLANTABLE LOOP RECORDERS
What does a loop recorder do?
A small monitor under the chest skin records your heart rhythm over months or years. It can help capture symptoms that happen too rarely for a short-term monitor.
It records information. It does not pace the heart or deliver shocks.
02 · IMPLANTABLE LOOP RECORDERS
How is it placed?
The recorder sits just beneath the skin through a small opening in the chest. It has no wires inside the heart. Local numbing medicine is used.
Loop recorder insertion does not use sedation in our usual care plan, so you may drive immediately unless another restriction applies.

What happens afterward?
Use the symptom marker or app as instructed and keep the home connection working. Your care team reviews recordings to help decide what treatment, if any, is needed.
Remote monitoring is not an emergency service. Call 911 for an emergency rather than waiting for a transmission to be reviewed.
